CEMETERIES of the KEWEENAW
"A CEMETERY IS A HISTORY OF A PEOPLE - A PERPETUAL RECORD OF YESTERDAY AND A SANCTUARY OF PEACE AND QUIET TODAY. A CEMETERY EXISTS BECAUSE EVERY LIFE IS WORTH LOVING AND REMEMBERING - ALWAYS."
( Author unknown. The Lutheran All Faiths Cemetery brochure, Middle Village, New York)

Houghton Keweenaw County Genealogical Society has started a multifacited cemetery project. We are trying to gleen as much information as possible concerning the existing cemeteries, with a emphasis on abandoned and long forgotten ones.

In 2002 we worked on the abandon Jewish Cemetery located northwest of Calumet and we are currently working on the Hecla Cemetery in Laurium, Michigan, Houghton County.
